Santan launches a second outlet, rehires AirAsia’s ex staffs

KUALA LUMPUR 21 July - Spurred by the success of its inaugural restaurant, Santan today launched its second outlet at the Sunway Pyramid shopping centre in Subang Jaya, catering to the strong demand from the local population and its surrounding areas.

General Manager of Santan, Catherine Goh said, Subang Jaya is a strategic location for the opening of Santan second outlet with 30% of its food orders come from the area and its surroundings.

“The second outlet is aligned with the vision of Santan to become the ASEAN fast food after seeing a positive growth despite the current climate. We are proud to expand our business after launching our first outlet about half a year ago. 

“Although these are challenging times, our entry into the food and beverage industry and our strategic vision to grow Santan through expansion with franchising opportunities have certainly been accelerated thanks to popular demand,” said Goh during Santan second outlet launching ceremony at Sunway Pyramid, Subang Jaya today.

The ceremony was also attended by Product Innovation Manager, David Lee and Retail and Business Development, Alexander Leaw.

Amidst the challenging economic climate, the expansion will enable Santan to create new job opportunities and help rehire former AirAsia airline employees. 

Hailing from different professional backgrounds such as cabin crew and ground services, they have been be reskilled and retrained to serve Santan’s offline and online customers. 

Goh said, each outlet has 11 headcount of employees which saw same number of retrenched staffs from AirAsia are rehired to serve the second outlet.

“Besides helping local budding entrepreneurs to make their foray into the food and beverage industry, we will also continue to work with local small and medium enterprises to market their products at Santan and source fresh produce directly from local farmers and producers through OURFARM, as part of our commitment to support local economic growth,” she added.

Meanwhile, one of the rehired staffs from AirAsia, Joel Lance Theseira, 27, revealed he was joyful to be rehired despite being in different workplace, however he managed to adapt his customer service skill in Santan.

“It was hard at first, but this is a great opportunity. But, as time goes by I will get used to it and naturally adapt to the new work environment.

“I feel amazing as every colleague is helpful and being at this branch of Santan, it would be busier and I am expecting to be motivated by it,” said him who was a carbin crew of AirAsia for seven years.

Dubbed the world's first inflight F&B brand to open a restaurant on ground, AirAsia’s Santan restaurant established its first outlet at the Mid Valley Megamall in the capital city in December 2019.

By end of this year, the restaurant will be opening another 15 stores in Klang Valley and expected to expand to other states namely Penang and Johor by next year. - DagangNews.com
