KUALA LUMPUR 14 Nov - The inaugural Talentbank Boardroom Challenge has crowned its first-ever champions, marking an important milestone in Malaysia’s effort to close the long-standing education-to-employment gap.

Three winning teams of university students impressed judges with forward-thinking, actionable solutions aimed at reshaping how institutions prepare graduates for the rapidly evolving world of work.

The challenge, launched as one of Malaysia’s most impactful student innovation platforms, brought together university teams from across the country. Each group was guided by an industry mentor to refine academic concepts into practical, scalable solutions that address the nation’s persistent skills mismatch.

The grand finale was held at the Talentbank Boardroom in Kuala Lumpur, where the Top 15 Finalists presented their ideas to a judging panel comprising Ben Ho, Chief Executive Officer; Muhammad Fadilah, Director of Government & University Liaison; and Li Kiat, Director of Employer Liaison.

Ben Ho highlighted the significance of the initiative, noting that the strongest ideas often come from students themselves.

“The Talentbank Boardroom Challenge is especially powerful because the solutions come directly from the students, the real ‘users’ of the education and employability ecosystem,” said Ho.

“They understand the challenges first-hand and are unafraid to share honest, ground-level insights. By listening to their perspectives, we can inspire policymakers and industry leaders to create more relevant, future-ready pathways for Malaysia’s graduates.”

All finalists received certificates of achievement, and their CVs will be distributed to leading employers within Talentbank’s extensive network. Teams showing exceptional talent and commitment to driving positive change will also be considered for potential career opportunities within the organisation.

Meanwhile, promising ideas with commercial potential may be evaluated for seed funding or integrated into Talentbank’s existing talent ecosystem.

The Top 3 winning teams will be given a special invitation to attend the 2025 Graduates’ Choice Award Gala — APAC’s Most Authoritative Graduate Employer Branding Award.

The prestigious event gathers representatives from the Ministry of Higher Education, along with more than 1,000 corporate and university leaders. The exclusive access provides students with a rare opportunity to engage directly with industry decision-makers and gain valuable exposure.

Following the success of its debut edition, Talentbank Boardroom Challenge 2.0 will return in 2026, expanding its focus to include education, employability, and deeper university–industry collaboration.

Talentbank will soon begin working closely with the winning teams to incubate, refine, and potentially scale their ideas, with the goal of transforming promising concepts into real ventures. Through this effort, the initiative aims to nurture Malaysia’s next generation of innovators and entrepreneurs.

Ultimately, the programme creates a four-way win — empowering students with entrepreneurial experience, strengthening universities through innovation, supporting ministries in national talent development, and propelling Talentbank’s mission to bridge the gap between education and industry.
